Hello Fellow
Gardeners,
When I was a young boy in Wisconsin, every year when winter
rolled around and the cold January and February winds blew
and dreams of green grass and soft warm winds haunted us, our
mailbox filled up with the welcoming and oh so colorful
Spring gardening and seed catalogs. This is still is a reminder
to me that spring is just around the corner. Those catalogs are
much more numerous today and are just as welcome. Here I have
compiled some favorite links and resources to help fill your
mailbox with these welcome signs of spring.
If you want to get a jump on your spring time
gardening, order your seed catalogs and seeds early.
Tomatoes and peppers especially can be started in doors anytime
after mid-January to be set outside in June. Get a jump on your
neighbors and grow the biggest tomatoes in the
neighborhood!
I have compiled and updated the following list of
favorite seed catalogs that I have used myself in the past. The
links should go directly to the free catalog order form page
98% of the time. If you have a favorite seed catalog you would
like included here, please contact me with the name of the
seed catalog you would like to see listed!
Cheers and Happy Gardening!

the largest, most progressive seed company in America. By 1915

Gurney's
Here's one of the first seed catalogs I fell in love with:
A few years ago Gurney's was sold to a much larger direct mail
oriented company, Foster and Gallagher. A Little while after,
Foster and Gallagher declared bankruptcy, unfortunately putting
thousands of people out of work, and leaving tens of thousands
of loyal Gurney's customers with no place to turn. A group of
lifelong mail order gardeners bought Gurney's at a bankruptcy
hearing a few months later, and, with your help, we'll restore
it to the glory days of old.

Seed
Savers Exchange

Seed Savers Exchange (SSE) is a nonprofit tax-exempt
organization that is saving "heirloom" (handed-down) garden
seeds from extinction. SSE's 8,000 members grow and distribute
heirloom varieties of vegetables, fruits, grains, SSE's main
focus is on heirloom varieties that gardeners and farmers
brought to North America when their families immigrated, and
traditional varieties grown by Native Americans, Mennonites and
Amish. Since SSE was founded in 1975, their members have
distributed an estimated 750,000 samples of endangered seeds
not available through catalogs and often on the verge of
extinction. SSE has always been the leader of the heirloom seed
movement, and the diligent efforts of their members is making
rare heirloom varieties available to gardeners
everywhere.
